On the weekend our writers group held a live reading event at a local coffee shop in NSW, Australia. I was lucky enough to be the MC, and before introducing each of the readers I shared one of my Friday Fictioneers pieces. They went down a treat (Rochelle, you would be very proud)! ‘It’s our 10 year anniversary for God’s sake!’
He hadn’t listened. He’d insisted on wearing his slippers to the club.
Frayed at the edges, dripped-tea stained across the toes, one sole almost completely worn through.
‘They’re just so comfortable,’ he’d said.
I’d made such an effort. A new fitted dress, strappy sandals. A push-up bra!
We arrived at the club and the doorman looked down at our feet.
‘I can’t let you in,’ he said flatly.
Embarrassment crept up my neck and my cheeks flushed.
‘Covered footwear only. The slippers are fine, but sandals simply don’t meet the code.’
Read Part 2 of this story (or maybe this is Part 2?) written by Mr Binks at Me.You.Coffee.

I like this. If you don’t mind I’m going to piggyback it and write from the other perspective 😉
What an awesome idea! And I love your piece to match mine. This week I’ll let you go first 😉

Jessie, Now I understand Mr. Bink’s story. Really funny and well written. It’s odd enough to be reality. 🙂 —Susan

I have to admit it was Binks that added the deeper level… I just provided the inspiration!
Ah, okay. Well it was your great story that set him up 🙂
Oh shucks! Ok, I’ll take that one 🙂

I also went back and read some additional readings from your blog – you’re good and I enjoyed it very much. You live in Australia – New South Wales? Is that right? Thanks, Nan 🙂
Yes, I’m from Newcastle… about 2 hours north of Sydney. How about you?
Ha Ha! She should have listened to his sartorial advice instead. Score one for the boys 🙂
What a wonderful twist at the end. Love this – made me laugh. Thank you.
